To provide flexibility and align with different professional goals, there are two certification routes available. Each route offers a recognised outcome, with differing levels of assessment depth and regulatory recognition, allowing learners to choose the option that best suits their requirements. Regardless of the route chosen, all learners who successfully complete the course will be awarded the Certified Security Risk Manager (CSRM®) certification by Oakwood Risk and Resilience. This recognises professional competence in security risk management and provides the CSRM® designation for use following successful completion of the programme.
Endorsed by the Skills and Education Group through the QLS Scheme, this route provides the Level 5 Certificate in Security and Resilience, alongside the Level 4 Award in Protective Security. Assessment for this route consists of two assignments of approximately 3000 words each, focusing on key elements of security risk management and their application in practice.
Awarded by SFJ Awards and regulated by Ofqual, this route leads to the Level 5 Security Risk Management Practitioner qualification. Assessment for this route consists of four assignments, each requiring between 3000 and 5000 words, designed to demonstrate depth of understanding and practical application across the full security risk management process.
Select and buy your preferred route of study using the links below. Monthly payment plans are available for both options.
This certification route is awarded by the Skills and Education Group and results in the endorsed Level 5 Certificate in Security and Resilience, the Level 4 Award in Protective Security and the Certified Security Risk Manager (CSRM®) from Oakwood.

Regulated qualifications sit on national frameworks, carry credits and are quality assured end to end. They usually cost more because of the additional administration and compliance required to meet Ofqual standards. Endorsed programmes are still independently reviewed, but they are not regulated by Ofqual. This gives far more flexibility to the course developer and makes them well suited to specialist or fast moving areas such as operational resilience. To complicate things further, “regulated” is often confused with “nationally recognised”. They are not the same. Many well known courses, such as CBCI or ISO Implementer and Auditor programmes, are widely recognised but do not sit on the Ofqual register. The key is understanding what sits behind the label. A course can be regulated, endorsed, nationally recognised or simply trusted by the industry. None are inherently better, they just serve different needs.
Yes, learners have access to tutor support throughout their studies, including progress check-ins and feedback on assignments. Tutors are experienced practitioners from security, policing, military, and high risk backgrounds.
The course has approximately 225 hours worth of study. You have up to 12 months to complete the course, but this can be extended if required.
There are no pre-entry requirements for this qualification. However, the course is only provided in English, so learners should have a good understanding of this language (both written and verbal). All assessments must be completed in English.
Assessment is through a portfolio of evidence, including written assignments, scenario-based tasks, and reflective statements that demonstrate understanding and practical application.
Yes, the distance learning format allows international students to enrol, provided they have access to the online platform and stable internet connection.
The course supports careers in security management, protective security, counter-terrorism, policing, resilience, facilities management, and consultancy roles.
